Beyond its simple formal composition, the artwork plays on a series of oppositions, reflecting on painting itself, its layers, and the processes that constitute it. It explores the unresolved conflict between the ideal of perfect form and the material and imperfect reality of the world. The central white circle is a microscope that magnifies the elements in order to study their interactions. The red background evokes the tactility of a fabric-lined surface and illusory denies the depth of the work, but the glued ribbons introduce a minimal three-dimensionality. The geometry of the circle and the distance between the tapes represent the order, rationality, and control of geometric tradition. In contrast, the very nature of the tapes, with their jagged vertical edges, irregular colored surfaces, and the texture of the canvas showing through. From tool to subject: the tape, the tool used to delimit areas and create clear edges, is elevated to the central subject of the work. It should not be removed to reveal what it hides, because it is the painting itself. A conceptual reversal that becomes visual.
